Holy orders is the sacrament of one devoting their life to God and helping the church teach the faith. the priesthood is the promise of a man giving his life to God and vowing to spend the rest of his life, spreading the faith and marrying the church. While priests cannot get married nor have day jobs, deacons can. Being a deacon is just as important to the church, it is just not as special. Holy orders can only be received once. First a man becomes a deacon, and then a priest. Some priests actually go on to becoming bishops, cardinals or even the Pope! The matter of holy orders is the laying of hands and the form is " We ask you, all powerful Father, give these servants of yours the dignity of the Presbyterate. Renew the spirit of holiness within them. By your divine gift may they attain the second gift in hierarchy and exemplify right conduct in their lives."
